4 Startup Founders’ Defining Moments of Success

Success doesn’t happen overnight. But sometimes the realization that you should be somewhere you’re not does.

Question: What one defining moment do you most attribute your success to?

Being Able to Truly Connect With Others

"I wasn't a moment particularly but rather a feeling. When I discovered it for myself it was liberating, I found myself being more accepting and understanding. As a result, I have found my life and interactions to be more fulfilling, which is one of the reasons my company was born. "

Leaving College

"While pursuing a bachelor's degree from a prestigious business school, I dropped out. I had already started two business and I had to choose between school and my company. It wasn't an easy decision, but the value of the degree didn't justify the time or cost. Since then I've invested 10 percent of my income on continuing education, but only on topics applicable to my business and personal goals."

Dealing With Personal Challenges

"Many years ago my life turned upside down and I went through a great deal of pain. I don't believe in the saying, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" as I've seen a number of people turn bitter or numb. However, I do believe that challenges give us the opportunity to grow. What I gained was a greater sense of understanding, compassion and empathy, things I now consider invaluable."

Leaving My Corporate Job

"Before quitting my corporate job to work on my startup, I was often depressed by the lack of impact I had every day. When I worked on my startup, I knew I would make a difference every day and I worked harder than I ever have. This has allowed me to gain new clients and build up a strong support network."
